Can US Postal Service open your outgoing mail?

i've looked all over the internet for this simple question.

I'm sending a letter and pictures to my friend in Texas.

Let's say these pictures are very personal, the post office cant look at them right?

In an envelope. Not a package.

Does the post office look at what you're sending at all?

Anything would help, thank you!!Can US Postal Service open your outgoing mail?
If they think theirs something suspicious. The reason why they check it because most of the mail travel on commercial airlines so they don't want a bomb. Can US Postal Service open your outgoing mail?
They are NOT supposed to.....

However, there have been times when the envelope has been ripped open by a piece of machinery and it been sent onward in a different envelope with the original envelope, card and pictures I had sent.

It happens a lot so be forewarned. Can US Postal Service open your outgoing mail?
theyre not supposed to and if they do you can get them in trouble cause its against the law
